Semiconductor operation can be very difficult to understand. The complex mathematics and physics make this topic difficult for even the best students and engineers to understand. However, there is a different way to understand device physics, and that is through visual concepts. Basic Device Physics is an 8-hour online course that offers detailed instruction on the physics behind the operation of a modern integrated circuit. We place special emphasis on the fundamentals of semiconductor operation, and stay away from the difficult mathematics that usually follows from this topic. This course is a must for every manager, engineer and technician working in the semiconductor industry, using semiconductor components or supplying tools to the industry.
Our instructors work hard to explain how semiconductor devices work without delving heavily into the complex physics and mathematical expressions that normally accompany this discipline.
Participants learn basic but powerful aspects about the semiconductor industry. This skill-building series is divided into four segments:
- Basic Semiconductor Properties. Participants learn the fundamentals of semiconductor behavior like generation and recombination.
- Diode Behavior. Participants learn about the depletion region and how voltage affects the depletion region and carrier movement.
- Bipolar Transistor Behavior. Participants learn how to visualize the operation of the bipolar transistor in its three major conditions: cutoff, active, and saturation.
- MOS Transistor Behavior. Participants learn about contact potentials, the behavior of the MOS capacitor, and the major operation regions of the MOS transistor: cutoff, subthreshold, triode, and saturation.
- The course will provide participants with an understanding of semiconductor physics and its technical issues.
- Participants will understand the basic concepts behind the operation of a pn junction diode and its basic performance.
- Participants will understand the basic concepts behind bipolar transistor operation and performance.
- Participants will understand the basic concepts behind MOS transistor operation and performance.
- The course offers a wide variety of sample problems that participants work to help them gain knowledge of the fundamentals of device operation.
- Participants will understand how reliability, power consumption and device performance are interrelated.
