Failure Analysis starts with localizing the failure mode. For many analysis efforts, the localization process begins with the Curve Tracer. The curve tracer, or semiconductor parameter analyzer, is a 2 to 4 terminal device that can measure the current-voltage characteristics of an electrical circuit. This includes junction behavior, transistor properties, and a host of potential failure modes on integrated circuits. Your industry needs competent analysts to operate the curve tracer and interpret the data it provides. Curve Tracer Analysis is a 2-hour long course that offers detailed instruction on the operation and use of the curve tracer, as well as the overall process flow for interpreting the curve tracer signals. This course is designed for every manager, engineer, and technician working in the semiconductor field, using semiconductor components or supplying tools to the industry.
By focusing on a Do It Right the First-Time approach to the analysis, participants will learn the appropriate methodology to successfully locate defects, characterize them, and determine the root cause of failure.
Participants learn to develop the skills to determine what tools and techniques should be applied, and when they should be applied. This skill-building series is divided into three segments:
- The Basic Operation of the Curve Tracer. Participants learn how the curve tracer operates and how to set it up for particular tests.
- The Interaction of the Curve Tracer with Electrical Circuits. Participants learn how the electrical circuit characteristics determine the response of the curve tracer and what the representative curves look like.
- Case Histories. Participants identify how to use their knowledge through the case histories. They learn to identify key pieces of information that allow them to determine the possible cause of failure and how to proceed.
- The course will provide participants with an in-depth understanding of the curve tracer.
- Participants will be able to determine how to interpret the data generated by the curve tracer.
- Participants will be able to identify a variety of different failure modes and how they manifest themselves on the curve tracer.
- Participants will be able to identify appropriate tools to purchase when starting or expanding a laboratory.
